Adopts the same mechanical interface as S500-eCo I/O terminal blocks, supporting expansion with up to 7 I/O modules for quick on-site assembly and configuration flexibility.
- Compact & Lightweight
Its small footprint and light weight make it ideal for installation in space-constrained cabinets or embedded applications.
- Industrial-grade Reliability
Complies with the IEC 61131-3 standard, featuring robust anti-interference performance and a long-service-life design suited for harsh industrial environments.
Structure & Components
- CPU Main Unit: Serves as the core processing component, integrating memory, communication interfaces, and power management functions.
- Communication Slots: Two standardized slots are dedicated to Ethernet and RS-485 respectively, with the option to insert additional communication modules for customized connectivity.
- Terminal Board: Supports wiring for both 24 V DC and 230 V AC voltage levels, compatible with screw or spring-type terminals for easy and secure connections.
- Heat Sink: A metal heat sink efficiently dissipates heat to maintain the module’s stable operating temperature.
Typical Application Areas
- Control systems for small packaging machinery and assembly lines
- Local control units in process automation setups
- Motion control subsystems for robotics or CNC machine tools
- Energy management and monitoring (e.g., power distribution cabinets, frequency converter front-ends)
- Fieldbus gateways or edge gateway nodes for industrial IoT deployments
Installation & Maintenance Guidelines
Installation
- Insert the CPU module into a standard 19-inch cabinet or DIN rail, and ensure that the fixing screws are fully tightened.
- Connect the 24 V DC power supply according to specifications, and verify the polarity before powering on the module.
- Use the corresponding terminal board for wiring. If no I/O modules are used, the pre-wiring function of the terminal board can be directly utilized to complete basic input/output configurations.
- Connect to upper-level systems or fieldbuses via Ethernet or RS-485 interfaces. It is recommended to use shielded twisted-pair cables and ensure proper grounding to minimize signal interference.
Commissioning
- Download programs using ABB’s PC-Based tools such as Automation Builder. For first-time use, it is advisable to perform a hardware detection to confirm that all modules are recognized correctly.
- Check the I/O status to ensure that the digital input/output signals correspond accurately with field devices.
Maintenance
- Regularly inspect power supplies and wiring terminals for looseness or corrosion to prevent electrical faults.
- Monitor the module temperature, and clean dust from the heat sink when necessary to maintain optimal heat dissipation.
- Use official safety upgrade packages for firmware updates to avoid compatibility issues caused by non-official firmware versions.
- In case of communication abnormalities, first check network cables, IP configurations, and the RS-485 terminal resistors for faults.
